Exploring Brandywine
Museum Explorers is an interactive program that introduces art to children ages 3-10 through a guided tour of the museum followed by a craft activity based on the works seen on the tour.
I’m an Education Intern working with the museum this summer and I just finished working with my first Museum Explorers group.
The activity we did a couple of weeks ago was called “Paint by Nature” where the kids, after seeing some of the great landscapes we have at the museum, used watercolor crayons to create their own interpretations of landscapes. You could tell how much fun each group was having, even the parents joined in the fun. I love messy craft projects so I wish I could have made my own watercolor crayon creation inspired by the Brandywine.
There are two more weeks left for this program, so make sure to check out what else we will be offering. This week we will focus on how different artists use lines in their work followed by drawing our own scratch art scene. The program ends with a classic on July 31st: a self-portrait collage inspired by both traditional and unusual self-portraits around the museum. This last activity was great and I’m really looking forward to working with the kids for the rest of the month.
