Take Advantage of Indoor Programs and Outside Adventures

Throughout the month of April

During the month of April, the Brandywine Conservancy & Museum of Art offers excellent events through its two programs, the Brandywine Conservancy and the Brandywine River Museum of Art.

Participants can enhance their museum experience with a closer look at art in the galleries, a visit to our historic properties, evening concerts and a cat-themed family day. They can also increase their appreciation of nature with events that explore the relationships between plants and wildlife and the connection between art and nature. Walks to help identify the birds of our region will be offered as well as opportunities to plant trees and clean up the Brandywine River.

"Creative Cat-ventures" Family Program

Sunday, April 6, 10 a.m. - noon
Take an imaginative journey as local artist Karl J. Kuerner reads from his series of children's books about Ike, an adventurous cat who enjoys exploring the Brandywine Valley and beyond. After, Kuerner will sign copies of his books Ike at Night, Ike Takes Flight, and the newly released Ike at Sea, all available in themuseum shop. In honor of Ike, make your own creative cat-themed art project. Included with museum admission, free on Sunday mornings until noon through November 23. 

Slow Art Day

Saturday, April 12
Join art-lovers worldwide on this day as we look at art s-l-o-w-l-y. 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. View five works of art in galleries 1 p.m. Participate in a discussion group in the museum café, where lunch is available for purchase. Drawing Kuerner Farm

Saturday, April 26, 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Join us for a drawing workshop at the iconic Kuerner Farm. The workshop is open to all levels and led by Jane Chesson, artist and education associate at the museum. Drawing materials will be provided. Cost is $30 or $24 for members. Register onlineor by calling 610-388-8326.

"Another Day, Another Dollar" Gallery Talk

Wednesday, April 30, 2 p.m. 
Amanda C. Burdan, Ph.D, associate curator, will lead a tour of the calendar exhibitions A Date with Art: The Business of Illustrated Calendars and N.C. Wyeth's America in the Making. Included with museum admission and free for members.

"Tea Time" Lecture by Brock Jobe

Wednesday. April 30, 7 p.m. 
Enjoy a fascinating lecture about the popularity of tea-drinking and the development of the tea table in the 18th century.Jobe is a professor of American art at Winterthur.

The galleries and the museum shop will open at 6 p.m. Complimentary refreshments and glass of wine will be served prior to the lecture. After, coffee and dessert will be served at 8 p.m. This Antiques Show program benefits the Museum Volunteers' Art Purchase Fund.

Historic Properties Open for Tours

April 1 through November 23
Make plans now and be among the first to tour the N. C. Wyeth House and Studio, Andrew Wyeth Studio, and Kuerner Farm this spring.Package tours, which combine visits to two properties, a guided tour of the galleries and lunch in the museum café, are available on selected days. 

Cost is $7 in addition to museum admission and free for members. Advance tickets are available online or by calling 610.388.8326.

Jazz on the Brandywine

The Sermon!
Friday, April 11, 7 p.m. Galleries open at 6 p.m. 
The Sermon! returns to the museum with an evening of classic soul, funk, jazz and more. Last year's concert by this dynamic group was a blast, and you won't want to miss this one! Presented by World Cafe Live at the Queen.

Catherine Marie Charlton Performance

Wednesday, April 16, 1 - 3 p.m. 
This award-winning pianist will perform original piano improvisations and compositions inspired by the works of the Wyeth family. Her album Red Leaf, Grey Sky: Piano Improvisations won the 2013 Independent Music Awards (Instrumental EP).
Free with museum admission and free for members.

BRANDYWINE CONSERVANCY

"NATIVE PLANTS of the BRANDYWINE REGION and THEIR LIAISONS" Lecture

Wednesday, April 2, 7 p.m. Galleries open at 6 p.m.
The interconnectedness of nature is a recurring theme in Aldo Leopold's book, A Sand County Almanac. Come learn about many common but frequently unknown connections described in Leopold's book and the connections between native plants and wildlife in our region. Mark Gormel, horticultural coordinator at the Brandywine Conservancy, will discuss these connections and also explain how we can be good stewards of our piece of the earth.

This program is part of the Community Read of Aldo Leopold's A Sand County Almanac (1949), a seminal book about conservation and land stewardship.The book is available in the museum shop and online. Through the leadership of Longwood Gardens and with the participation of other conservation organizations and libraries, programs will take place throughout the spring. Included with museum admission and free for members.

"Art and Nature" Gallery Talk

Wednesday, April 9, 2 p.m.
Environmentalist Aldo Leopold likens a river to an artist, wielding a brush to change its surrounding landscape. Discover how artists paint nature in works by William T. Richards, Andrew Wyeth, Jamie Wyeth, George A. Weymouth and more, in this gallery talk led by museum guides.

21st Annual Brandywine River Cleanup

Saturday, April 12, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Join the Young Friends of the Brandywine Conservancy & Museum of Art and pitch in for the yearly cleanup of the Brandywine River. Birding the Brandywine

Wednesday, April 16, 8 a.m. 
Join Conservancy staff members on a walk along the Brandywine River Trail to look for spring migrants. Bring binoculars if you have them. Meet in the Brandywine River Museum of Art parking lot.

Tree Planting Party

East Bradford Township

Come one, come all and join the Brandywine Conservancy's reforestation initiative. For the last five years, staff and volunteers have been planting trees throughout the Brandywine Watershed. At this event, we will plant our milestone 25,000th tree! Get your gloves and shovel ready and watch for more details coming soon at www.brandywineconservancy.org

Guest Bartender Night

This fundraiser for the Radnor Hunt Races is sponsored by the Junior Board and features local "celebrities" pouring the spirits at Brandywine Brewing Company in Greenville. Free and open to the public.
