Historic tinplate train display added to Brandywine Christmas offerings, Dec. 23 through Jan. 5, 2020

Chadds Ford, PA, December 19, 2019 — Just in time for the holidays, the Brandywine River Museum of Art is excited to add a historic tinplate model train layout to its Brandywine Christmas offerings. Previously owned by Nicholas Wyeth—the oldest son of artist Andrew Wyeth—the 8x12' standard gauge layout was commissioned in 1976 as a Christmas gift and features trains made by the Lionel Corporation in the 1920s. The Wyeth trains will be on display in the Museum’s atrium for two weeks only, in addition to the popular Brandywine Railroad currently on view, beginning Monday, December 23 through Sunday, January 5. The colorful display was donated by Wyeth to the Brandywine River Museum of Art in 2014. It has recently been enhanced with reproductions of a monorail and vintage cars running along the tracks and features a carnival scene with a Ferris wheel and carousel, as well as Santa flying in his sleigh.

Additional Brandywine Christmas offerings include the Brandywine Railroad—an O-gauge display with trains running on nearly 2,000 feet of track—and thousands of handcrafted and whimsical Critter ornaments decorating the towering trees in the Museum’s three-story atrium and available for sale in the Museum Shop. Also on view through January 5, Cinderella & Co.—Three Fairy Tales Reimagined explores the enduring stories of Cinderella, The Three Little Pigs and Goldilocks and the Three Bears with more than 100 illustrations created through time and across cultures.

Brandywine Christmas is made possible by the generosity of The Davenport Family Foundation Fund for Exhibitions and Otto’s BMW & Mini. Additional support is provided by Herr Foods, Inc., and The Freylinghuysen Foundation.
