Walking In Andrew’s Footsteps

Walking In Andrew’s Footsteps

Kuerner Farm is a rustic yet visually stunning white farmhouse and working Pennsylvania bank-style barn.

This past week myself and fellow blogger and Education intern, Emily, were able to experience the beautiful Kuerner Farm. We were able to get an “all-access” tour of the barn itself, by the youngest Kuerner family member, which was an absolutely splendid opportunity.

Our tour guide said that Andrew Wyeth would come to the farm almost daily while he was in Chadds Ford. One room in particular was truly fantastic to behold. In a closed off, cobweb coated room a spring well was placed in front of two windows. Andrew painted Spring Fed in that very room in 1967.

It was a surreal encounter standing in the very room where Wyeth painted one of his masterpieces. Being able to walk into a setting with such historic significance made me realize that I was bearing witness to an artist’s precious context and environment.

I saw the things he saw, walked the floors he strolled on and touched the walls he painted in his paintings. Brandywine River Museum visitors are able to visit Kuerner Farm as well and experience what we saw first hand. Below are some more snap shots of the Farm that I took with my phone!
