Visiting Kuerner Farm

Visiting Kuerner Farm

One of the cool things about the Brandywine River Museum is that many of the pieces were created right down the road from it.

For example, the Kuerner Farm that Andrew Wyeth recreated in many of his painting is just a short drive from the museum and opened to the public for tours. Being able toexperience the farm in person really gave me a new perspective on Andrew’s work. Along with making the pieces personal, it also helped make them more memorable. One piece in particular that I don’t think I will ever forget is called Spring Fed by Andrew Wyeth. Towards the end of the tour, the guide led us into the barn where we were taken to see a sink overflowing with water and next to it was a print of Spring Fed. This was not the first time I had seen this painting, which is displayed in the museum, but it was the first time that it made an impression on me. Being able to see the exact inspiration for a piece helped create a stronger connection to it for me. I would highly recommend any museum visitor to go on the off-site tours after visiting the galleries so that they may also be able to have the Wyeth family’s creations come to life.
