POSTPONED: Members Bus Trip: Western Pennsylvania

Please note: This event is postponed until a later date.

Pack your bags . . . Brandywine members are invited to join us for an exclusive, multi-day adventure! This carefully crafted bus trip is brimming with treasures only found in Western Pennsylvania—and we picked this specific time of year in October for the prime “leaf-peeping” views.

TRIP ITINERARY:

Day One: Wednesday, October 12, 2022

We begin our journey through the fall foliage to Bedford, PA where we will pick up our local guide and make our way over to pay respects at the Flight 93 National Memorial, which includes both the Memorial Plaza—with the Wall of Names of the Heroes of Flight 93—and the Visitor Center. Each tour member receives a commemorative magnet “Remember the Heroes of Flight 93.”

Then we enjoy lunch on our own at Our Coal Miner’s Diner, a local favorite, before taking a curator-led tour of The Westmoreland Museum of American Art. After a fun-filled first day, we will check into the Historic Summit Inn Resort. Dinner will be enjoyed in Mae’s Dining Room.

Day Two: Thursday, October 13, 2022

After a buffet breakfast, our guide will accompany us on an in-depth tour of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Kentuck Knob. Following our tour and a stop at the gift shop, we will travel to Ohiopyle State Park Visitor Center where we’ll experience wonderful views of the Falls and indoor exhibits.

We’ll then indulge in a wine tasting and wagon ride at Christian W. Klay Winery before returning to the Summit Inn and to relax before heading to The Stone House Restaurant and Country Inn for dinner.

Day Three: Friday, October 14, 2022

After breakfast at the Inn, we will check out of our rooms and continue on to the final leg of our journey. Our local guide will join us for a guided hike and tour of the gallery and exhibition space at the Powdermill Nature Reserve near Ligonier. We will then have free time to grab lunch on your own, or explore the Fort Ligonier Museum (optional) and the craft and food booths at Fort Ligonier Days—a three-day festival commemorating the Battle of Fort Ligonier during the French and Indian War in 1758.

Last, but certainly not least, we will meet our Brandywine Conservancy friends at our Penguin Court Preserve and learn about their mission and current projects. We will then journey back home to Chadds Ford, PA, arriving back at the Brandywine River Museum of Art in the late evening.
