To celebrate the opening of Every Leaf & Twig: Andrew Wyeth’s Botanical Imagination—a special exhibition featuring 40 watercolors and drawings that tell the story of Andrew Wyeth’s focus on the fragile rhythms and intimate drama of plant life—visitors will be treated to 15 breathtaking artistic displays of Sogetsu ikebana. On view throughout the Museum’s open spaces, the flower displays will feature the stunning work of Ikebana Arrangements by the Sogetsu Philadelphia Main Line Branch.
Ikebana, the ancient art of Japanese flower arranging, is practiced and enjoyed around the world. The Sogetsu discipline focuses on freedom of individual expression, with contemporary arrangements featuring a wide array of materials including leaves, branches, mosses, fruits, and vegetables, as well as flowers in all their evolving forms.
We hope you will join us to explore and celebrate the connection between art and nature in the newly exhibited watercolors and drawings of Andrew Wyeth and the sculptural arrangements of local Sogetsu artists. Please note: While the ikebana displays will be on view beginning Friday, February 23, the new exhibition, Every Leaf & Twig: Andrew Wyeth's Botanical Imagination, will be opening on Saturday, February 24.
