Sensory-Friendly Access Hours: Brandywine Railroad

Individuals on the autism spectrum or with a sensory processing disorder and their families are invited to join us for after-hours access to the Museum’s Brandywine Railroad, a holiday favorite featuring trains running on 2,000 feet of track with more than 1,000 pieces.

Also on view will be The Wonderful World of Wyeth Miniatures, an exhibition that highlights the miniature worlds created and loved by the Wyeth family. The first floor will have holiday trees decorated with Brandywine Critters, ornaments made from natural materials.

Created in conjunction with local families and occupational therapists, this inclusive and accessible program strives to provide a welcoming experience through offering:

• Pre-visit social story document and video
• Reduced crowding and noise
• Hands-on craft activities  
• On-hand support of skilled and friendly volunteers
• Sensory regulation resources such as fidgets, noise-canceling headphones, sunglasses, and a sensory break area

This program welcomes participants of all ages and their families (grandparents, siblings, and others welcome!).

The event is scheduled from 5-7 p.m., with three arrival timeslots to spread out the number of people in the galleries. Choose your arrival timeslot here:
• 5:00 – 5:30 p.m.
• 5:30 – 6:00 p.m.
• 6:00 – 6:30 p.m.
