Free First Sunday for Families
Come to the Brandywine Museum of Art for an exploration of wood in art, science and nature! In addition to free admission, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., seek and find carved details in the woodworks of Wharton Esherick to use as inspiration for your own crafts.* Create colorful scratch art postcards and design and build your own miniature dream art studio using wood pieces.
Discover native trees with Brandywine Conservancy’s Environmental Educator, Julia Steiner, and chat with master woodworker, Larissa Huff, to explore the special qualities of wood. Did you know you can blow bubbles through a piece of oak? What is the difference between closed grain and open grain? How and why does wood move through the seasons? How do we get from tree to furniture? Take part in some fun science experiments to learn all about wood.
