Creative Escape Workshop: Stitched with Love
Embark on a journey to master the art of counted cross-stitch in this evening workshop! Get inspired by paintings of love in our galleries and learn more about the fundamentals of hand stitching with teaching artists Amanda Karel and Stella Singleton from the shop Needles & Bolts.
With a focus on backstitch, cross-stitch, and half-stitch techniques, you will begin working on a small cross-stitch pattern of the iconic LOVE statue by Robert Indiana. All materials will be provided, and no experience is necessary. Light snacks will be available, and BYOB is encouraged.
The Museum galleries will open at 5:30. At 6:00 pm there will be a brief art discussion in one of our galleries for inspiration, followed by the workshop beginning at 6:15 pm.
Artist Bios:
Amanda Karel began cross stitching when she was 6 years old. Over the years, her love for making things expanded into several formats -- sewing garments, baking, crochet, embroidery, macramé, and now quilting. She loves teaching and helping people realize their creative visions, along with continuing to grow her own skillset.
Stella Singleton fell in love with hand work while cross-stitching with her Nana as a child. She later grew her practice to include knitting and quilting, and in 2022 opened Needles and Bolts quilt shop in the Mt. Airy neighborhood. The store builds community through inspiration and education by offering collaborative workshops and quilting supplies. Singleton has a great eye for color and has kept building her toolbox of techniques since her first stitches.
