Line Up
Look for all types of lines—straight and curvy, thick and thin—and make colorful, linear designs using scratch art paper.
- Materials: scratch art paper and scratch art tool
- Directions: Once you decide on your design, use your scratch art tool to scratch away the black surface of the scratch art paper. As you draw, fun colors will begin to appear. Use the pointed end of the tool for thin lines and the flat end for thicker lines.
Animal Safari
Study the shapes and colors of animals on a virtual trip through the Museum, then use Model Magic to mold your own creative creature.
- Materials: Model Magic and markers
- Directions: Knead, pinch, roll and sculpt the Model Magic into your animal. You might make a real animal, an imaginary one, or even an animal of you own invention. For best results, let your creature dry overnight and then color it with markers.
Art Adventure
Discover the stories contained in works of art to use as inspiration for a book of your own.
- Materials: sketchbook, pencil and markers
- Directions: What will you put in your sketchbook? Will it be filled with your summer memories, a story you wrote, or even drawings of the world around you? Whatever you choose, this book is for you to decorate and fill. Remember to create a title and cover design for your book.
Natural Beauty
Explore landscapes and works of art about nature and use diffusing paper to create your own beautiful design.
- Materials: diffusing paper, markers and squirt bottle
- Directions: Color the diffusing paper using the markers, covering all or most of the paper. Next, fill your squirt bottle with water. Lay your diffusing paper on a few paper towels and spray water onto it and watch the colors start to blend with one another. You can get different effects if you squirt a little or a lot of water. The more water you use, the more the colors will blend and wash away.
