Using a little bit of paint and a whole lot of imagination, follow these steps to make a picture full of color and personality.

Supplies:

You will need:  

• Any size piece of watercolor paper 
• Scrap piece of watercolor paper
• A cup of water
• Watercolor paint 
• Paintbrushes
• Black fine line marker (a pen would work just as well, too)
• Crayons/markers/colored pencils

Step 1:

Experiment mixing different skin tone colors and painting them on a test strip of paper. Try making at least ten different shades by using red, yellow, orange, brown, black and white.

Step 2:

Using a clean paint brush, dab blobs of water onto your paper. Before the water dries use a second smaller paintbrush, swish it around in your watercolor tray to make some of those colors you made on your scrap paper and tap it on the different globs of water.

Pro tip: Experiment with water globs in different shapes and with as many of those skin tone colors as possible. These shapes will become the faces in your crowd!

Step 3:

Let your painting dry and then use a fine line black marker or pen to make your paint blobs into faces. Think of facial features, hair and accessories to give your people personality.

Pro tip: Use your imagination to make all of your faces look different. Think of their individual emotions, characteristics and style.

Step 4:

Start at the bottom of your painting and add clothing to your Blob friends.

Step 5:

Use crayons/markers/colored pencils to add even more detail to your sea of faces. I chose to color their hair and add some more color to their faces but left the clothes black and white. This is your painting and you can choose to finish it however you like!

Future Fun: What other things can you turn a blob of paint into? On a second sheet of paper, experiment with different colors and blob shapes and sizes and let your imagination run wild!
