Pennsylvania Game Commission's Cavity Nester Program Virtual Presentation
As part of Penguin Court's winter virtual series, "For the Birds," Stefan Karkuff, an Avian Recovery Biologist with the Pennsylvania Game Commission (PGC) will share information on the PGC's "Cavity Nester Program."
In addition to Eastern bluebirds, tree swallows, black-capped chickadees, and Carolina wrens, chimney swifts, purple martins, and prothonotary warblers nest in cavities. The PGC is focused on the latter three, noting that these species have experienced prolonged and significant population declines across several decades in a landscape increasingly influenced by humans and loss of natural nesting structures. Pennsylvania still harbors a substantial population of these impressive birds, particularly martins and swifts, but the coming decades will be telling for the long-term sustainability of these species. The PGC is initiating a recovery program focused on education and deployment of artificial structures statewide. Learn how you can help these species.
This is a "Pay What You Wish" presentation with donations benefiting Penguin Court and its education/outreach programs. Thank you for considering a donation.
The presentation will be recorded and shared with registrants typically within 2-3 weeks of the program.
