We love a good wildlife "caught on camera" moment! That’s why we’re sharing some of our most popular social media posts featuring creatures—both large and small—that have been spotted at Brandywine’s nature preserves. From beavers to bears, here’s a look at some of our most memorable wildlife visitors captured on camera.

Laurels Preserve

The Laurels and surrounding land is home to a variety of wildlife, with recent sightings including fox and great blue heron. But it’s these two beavers who were seen swimming in the Doe Run earlier this year that garnered the most views! The Laurels has also been named an Important Bird Area by Audubon Pennsylvania, with approximately 160 species observed nesting in or migrating through the Laurels, including Bobolinks, ospreys, and bald eagles.

Penguin Court Preserve

Boasting 923 forested acres in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, Penguin Court is home to a rich diversity of wildlife. While white-tailed deer are the most regular sightings, other animals, including turkeys, groundhogs, bobcats, and a whole host of nighttime visitors have been spotted on the grounds. Bears are also frequently seen on the property—including this mama bear and her three adorable cubs that were captured on video romping through the forest and climbing trees.

Waterloo Mills Preserve

Fifteen miles west of center city Philadelphia sits 170 spectacular acres that make up the Waterloo Mills Preserve, which features an 18th century village, mill race remnants, wildflower meadows, fertile marshes, mature woods, and over a mile of meandering creek. Oh yeah, and an abundance of wildlife ranging from common snapping turtles to birds such as the vibrant scarlet tanager. Just remember to keep an eye out for all that slithers, like this beautiful non-venomous milk snake previously spotted on the grounds.
