The Brandywine Museum of Art is now offering guided tours of N.C. Wyeth’s monumental mural, Apotheosis of the Family, 1932, housed in a specially designed round barn on Point Lookout Farm—the home of N.C.’s grandson, artist Jamie Wyeth—in nearby Wilmington, DE.
This exclusive, all-encompassing experience will first take visitors on a trip to the N.C. Wyeth Studio, a National Historic Landmark, for a guided look at the artist’s mural practice. Next, you’ll embark on a scenic drive through lands that have been preserved by the Brandywine Conservancy on your way to Point Lookout Farm. Once on the farm site, you’ll walk through an open horse stable that was previously home to the 2012 Belmont Stakes-winning thoroughbred, Union Rags, who was owned by Jamie Wyeth’s late wife, Phyllis Mills Wyeth—an avid conservationist and equestrian. Today, the stable houses several descendants of Union Rags who now live on the property. Once through the stable, you'll encounter a stunning vista overlooking the 200-plus acre Point Lookout Farm, then you'll walk down a grassy path to the round barn that houses N.C. Wyeth’s Apotheosis of the Family mural.
Measuring 19 feet high and 60 feet long, this mural is the largest work ever created by the artist. Originally commissioned in the early 1930s by the Wilmington Savings Fund Society (WSFS) to mark the bank’s centennial, the mural was acquired by the Wyeth Foundation for American Art after it was removed from the former WSFS building more than 15 years ago. After a painstaking, multi-year restoration process, the mural was reassembled and installed in a newly constructed round barn at Point Lookout Farm in the summer of 2025.
The N.C. Wyeth Mural Experience offers visitors the exclusive opportunity to experience this mural up close in an intimate setting, all while learning more about the artist’s mural practice and the massive conservation project undertaken to restore this painting. The Mural Experience also includes admission to the Brandywine Museum of Art, where visitors can see a large selection of paintings by N.C. Wyeth from his career spanning four decades, as well as works by Andrew, Jamie, Henriette, and Carolyn Wyeth.

Important Information Before You Book
Please review the following details before purchasing your non-refundable ticket for the N.C. Wyeth Mural Experience:
- Accessibility: Please note that the route to get to the Round Barn is not accessible as defined by the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) Standards. Due to the nature of the working farm environment at Point Lookout, this experience involves outdoor walking of approximately 200 feet on uneven, grassy terrain; a moderate incline and decline between the horse stable and the round barn housing the mural; and a variety of unpaved surfaces. Due to these conditions, the N.C. Wyeth Mural Experience cannot accommodate wheelchairs at this time and is not recommended for individuals with any type of mobility limitation.
- Liability Waiver: A liability waiver must be signed by all guests (or a guest’s parent/legal guardian) at the time of check in. Guests are not permitted on the tour without a signed waiver. Click here to view the liability waiver.
- Active Farm Environment: Tours take place on a working farm with live horses, dogs, and other animals. Please be aware of your surroundings and follow all staff instructions while on site. For guest safety and the safety of the animals, guests may not pet, feed, or reach toward the horses or other animals at any time.
- Age Requirement: This experience is designed for adult audiences. Children under 12 years of age are not permitted on the tour.
- Recommended Attire: Keeping in mind the walking conditions on uneven, grassy surfaces, Brandywine recommends wearing closed-toed, sturdy, flat footwear suitable for outdoor terrain.
- No Restroom Facilities: There are no public restrooms available at the N.C. Wyeth Studio or at Point Lookout Farm. Please plan accordingly before your visit.
- Allergies: This is an outdoor, agricultural environment. Guests with allergies to animals, pollen, or other natural elements should take appropriate precautions.
- Weather Preparedness: This tour is an indoor and outdoor experience that will proceed in light rain or mild weather conditions. Guests are encouraged to dress appropriately for the season and to bring rain gear, sun protection, or outerwear as needed for comfort.
